Which seems more unlikely as this is effecting 2 versions of Camtasia. If Unlock is greyed out and cannot be clicked, the trial was already reset one time and so cannot be reset again. Or is there any workaround to get to the specific version 2021.0.5 Or maybe I just stick with 2019. But when I look at the offer (see screenshot below) I do not find it.

The recorder has a built-in disaster recovery feature that will attempt to auto-recover a failed recording. Make professional-quality videos quickly and easily with Camtasia. TechSmith stores quite a few Camtasia settings in the registry. So I would like to download version 2021.0.5. Option 1: Built-in Disaster Recovery in Camtasia Recorder These are the various options to resolve this solution. (we normally do that as well but sometimes we forget. The Camtasia Recorder shuts down when the computer randomly shuts downs or some other technical reason occurs.

If it doesn't fix the problem, export and save the zip file alongside the project file is always wise. I already knew that Camtasia doesn't like it when there is an in the file/path name but this is new to me. there seems to be a cap on the total path/location length of 248 characters (or at least for us). I then changed the folder name to something insanely long so that the total character count for the complete path would go over the 248 character spaces, and as expected: not opening > error. So, to test my theory I moved the project up 1 level and opened it to make sure it worked (it did). This was at 248 characters total path length.

Moving it up 1 level brought those numbers to respectively 163 and 221 character spaces.Īfter some more testing, I noticed that if I started to rename the file in the original location from within Camtasia, Camtasia at a certain moment, stopped me from typing. Select Camtasia> Preferences in the top left of Camtasia. Follow these instructions to change auto delete: Open Camtasia. You can change the auto delete period or deselect it if you do not want Camtasia to delete recording files. The original path including the file name was 272 character spaces. Recordings are automatically deleted after 14 days by default if not used in the project. The original path excluding the file name was 213 character spaces. It used to be you had the option to select 'All Files in Media Bin' before exporting. I moved the project folder up 3 levels and low and behold problem solved! Im using Camtasia 2020 and trying to export a zip file. This gave me an idea to shorten the path, so for testing purposes, When more then Characters it would do 6 and then add ~1 before adding the file extension (abcdef~1.xxx). Camtasia seems to be unable to open the trec files generated by its own capture tool. You would have to be editing in Camtasia 8 and. Im attempting to open Camtasia 9 Projects (same issue running Camtasia 8), 'Open Project' does not show any folders or (.camproj) files. This zipped project contains all the media, project file and everything in the project.

I then looked at the error and noted it was "shortening" the path like you would do in DOS to an 8.3 format. Normally, if you share a project in Windows you export a zipped project through Camtasia. ** edit: these are the new(?) standalone projects that camtasia can make/now makes by default. This alone was already strange It looked like a project file by naming convention, but not recognized as one but as a folder instead.Ĭhanging the folder name didn't do anything same error. When I took a closer look, the file that I was trying to open, let's call it "test.tscproj" inside the folder "test", was in a folder called exactly the same as the file, iow \test\ test.tscproj\test.tscproj. In it we store all the files we use for that project We have a dedicated storage location and with a new project we make a folder with the project name. Now, let me give you some important (simplified) info before I continue:

HOWEVER since we moved to Camtasia 2022, we've been having the same problem!Ĭopying the project folder and pasting it locally works or just exporting it as a zip and then downloading the zip and use that. Colleagues who opened my network based tscproj files just had to relink the used media (stored in the same folder so no biggie).
